THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING & EXPLOITED CHILDREN INCREASES
EFFICIENCY AND SECURITY WITH METAPASS, AXALTO, AND OMNIKEY TECHNOLOGIES
A Powerful Technology Combination of MetaPass Single-Sign-On Software,
Axalto Smart Cards, and OMNIKEY Smart Card Readers Speeds Up Access To
Data and Increases Information Security
Mountain View, Calif. – February 14, 2006 –
MetaPass, Inc., the Universal Single Sign-On (SSO) company, based in Silicon
Valley, California, today announced that the National Center for Missing
& Exploited Children® (NCMEC) has selected MetaPass SSO, Axalto
smart cards, and OMNIKEY CardMan® 6121 smart card readers as its single
sign-on and strong authentication solution. MetaPass’ technology
will make it easier and more secure for those at NCMEC to access data
on their computers; no logins or passwords required. The technology will
be used first by NCMEC employees, then distributed to the representatives
from the various law enforcement agencies, such as the Federal Bureau
of Investigation, that have offices at NCMEC’s headquarters. MetaPass,
Axalto, and OMNIKEY will be demonstrating the solution at Axalto’s
booth #737 at the RSA Conference 2006 during February 13-17 in San Jose,
California.
To securely access NCMEC systems and data, each employee will have an
OMNIKEY CardMan® 6121 USB smart card reader dongle (a hardware device
that plugs into a USB port, acting as copy protection for a software application)
containing an Axalto Cyberflex smart card. The technology works in a way
that an ATM card would. These portable strong authentication tokens, together
with MetaPass SSO, create a complete solution al¬lowing users fast,
secure and mobile access to data.
“Accessing sensitive information securely and in a timely manner
is of utmost importance to us,” said Steven Gelfound, Director of
IT at NCMEC. “Too many passwords to access all our systems was compromising
our effectiveness. The Cyberflex Access smart card stores the employee’s
user name and password which is accessed through the OMNIKEY USB reader.
Then the MetaPass SSO software automatically fills out IDs and passwords
with a single click, allowing our employees to quickly access the data
they need and operate effectively.”
NCMEC’s mission is to help prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation;
help find missing children; and assist victims of child abduction and
sexual exploitation, their families, and the professionals who serve them.
It serves as a clearinghouse of information and provides technical assistance
to individuals and law-enforcement agencies in the prevention, investigation,
prosecution, and treatment of these cases.
Advances in computer technology have revolutionized the search for missing
children. The ability to provide safer, immediate, and reliable access
to information is critical to the success of NCMEC. MetaPass SSO’s
key driver is one of the solutions. Due to the sensitive nature of the
information handled, security can not be compromised. The MetaPass SSO
is capable of providing access to a number of applications with no integration
to a host of internal and external users, each with different access levels.
MetaPass SSO is the only out-of-the-box, system-independent single sign-on
technology that performs automatic and universal login, without custom
scripts or connectors, to any enterprise application, website, terminal,
appliance, LAN and VPN and is compatible with all browsers.
“We are honored to provide enhanced security, convenience, and
increased productivity to such a noble and important organization,”
said David DuPouy, CEO of MetaPass, Inc. “It has been a pleasure
to work closely with NCMEC to understand their particular requirements,
and it is a great proof that MetaPass is the SSO solution of choice for
all organizations, from the simplest ones to those with tremendous security
and speed constraints to respond to real-world demands.”
MetaPass SSO provides powerful administration and access management features:
from a central console, an administrator creates a sign-on routine with
a few clicks and updates any or all users without their intervention.
The entire process takes only a few minutes. MetaPass seamlessly integrates
with most companies’ directories to securely administer policies,
credentials and deployment settings and most strong authentication devices.
