DC101'S 'ELLIOT IN THE MORNING' AND PAPA JOHN'S ROLL
OUT PIZZA PROMOTION FOR NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING & EXPLOITED CHILDREN
ALEXANDRIA, VA - May 26, 2004 - To commemorate National Missing
Children's Day, DC101's 'Elliot in the Morning' and Papa John's are raising
money and awareness for the National Center for Missing & Exploited
Children. In sweltering heat at Market Square Plaza, Elliot and DC101
staffers sold Papa John's pizza, drinks and DC101 merchandise to local
supporters. It's all part of "Elliot's Papa John's Pick 5" Promotion.
Now until Labor Day Papa John's is offering this special pizza offer,
which is a large pizza with 5 toppings, for a discount price of $14.01.
With every sale, a $1.01 will be donated to NCMEC. In the first two hours
of the drive, Elliot raised nearly $1,300. The summer promotion hopes
to bring in a half a million dollars for NCMEC.
"Elliot cares about missing and exploited children and wants to
help in any way he can. We are grateful for DC101's support ", said
Susan Culler, NCMEC Vice President of Development. "Local broadcasters,
like DC101, continue to be an invaluable partner to our mission."
Since 1983, our nation has observed National Missing Children's Day on
May 25. Proclaimed first by President Ronald Reagan and honored by every
administration since, May 25 is the day 6-year-old Etan Patz disappeared
from a New York street corner on his way to school in 1979.
The summer fundraiser was launched on 'Elliot in the Morning' with help
from John Walsh, Co-founder of NCMEC and host of "America's Most
Wanted."
"Elliot told me he was 10-years-old and living in New York when
Etan Patz disappeared. It was a tragic story that has stayed with him
every since. Elliot is deeply committed to our cause and I'm proud to
call him my friend", said John Walsh.
